Tennessee | Vacation | May 2020
It was a crazy couple months and we had to getaway. What better way to do that than social distancing in Tennessee?! We went to Windrock Park to go off-roading on the RZR, camped, and ended up in Gatlinburg for a night since we broke a wheel hub on the RZR.
We left late Friday night, at the start of Memorial Day weekend, got down to the campground late, pitched the tent and went to bed.
We woke up early Saturday morning to get out on the trails. Our first adventure was to The Overlook. It was so foggy we couldn't see much of anything. Then we headed back down to the campground to get lunch and meet up with his friend and a group of hers. Then we headed out with them, for like 10 hours! We passed waterfalls, found two creeks, abandoned bridge, small towns, giant windmills, and ended the evening on The Lookout on the top of the mountain! It was an exhausting, HOT, and very fun day! We rode back down the mountain in the dark, which was really cool and scary at the same time. When we got back to the campsite, we ate and fell asleep very quickly.
Sunday, we woke up a little later and headed to trail 22, which we were told was the best trail. Nick let me drive for the first part then we were having to go through some big ruts and up steep hills so he took over, but I had a lot of fun and look forward to driving again! The trail was a lot of fun! She told us to take the bypass because it had some “gnarly” rocks, but we missed it and kept going. We ALMOST made it through but we couldn't, the rocks were too big. So we turned around and headed to the bypass, but it was all rutted out and too deep for us to get up too, so we had to turn around, yet again, and head back down the way we came. It was rough, we broke a wheel hub coming back down, Nick fixed it with some help from some guys who stopped (I'm too weak to lift the RZR). But we were done for the weekend, unfortunately. We headed back to the campground, packed up, and headed to Gatlinburg for the night.
Our hotel in Gatlinburg was in old downtown and right over the river, it was awesome! We got there around dinner time and headed into town to Blake Shelton’s Ol' Red Restaurant. It was good, it had cool decor on the inside! Then we headed back to the hotel and talked on the balcony for hours listening to the river beside us.
Early Monday morning we were up and on the road to come home. It took longer than expected to come home because we got stuck in terrible traffic and an accident but we made it!
Overall it was a very good trip and I look forward to going back sometime! I really enjoy off-roading!
